The Salt Lake Tribune is reporting on the battle gaining momentum against Utah's adoption ban, which was passed in 2000. Utah is one of three states with the adoption prohibition.
Fair-minded advocates hope to get adoption restrictions on all cohabitating couples, including same-sex couples, lifted. Representative Rebecca Chavez-Houck, a Democrat representing Salt Lake City, is sponsoring the bill.
The Williams Institute recently found that 19 percent of Utah's same-sex couples are raising children together. It estimates the number of children at 1,226.
The research group also discovered that same-sex couples live in every county of the state. Salt Lake County has 1,964 lesbian and gay couples.

Let's hope for the sake of my cousins that these open minded people get this bigoted ban lifted.
Adoption Ban
It must be lifted! I live in Utah and have lost visitation with my 5 year old daughter because my ex decided to use a homophobic law to serve her own selfish needs. Had I been able to adopt my daughter,I would not be cut out of her life. I am fighting with many to get this done. I look forward to the day that my partner and I can protect our family by being able to adopt.
