'The Kids Are All Right' scores year's best indie film debut

One of the most anticipated releases of the summer, Lisa Cholodenko’s two-mom-drama 'The Kids Are All Right,' lived up to hype this weekend, by scoring the best debut of 2010. According to estimates provided by Rentrak, the critically acclaimed 'Kids' grossed a massive $504,888 from just 7 theaters.

indieWIRE says, "Its critical acclaim mixed with this early suggestion of box office appeal has certainly made 'Kids' one of the year’s first bonafide Oscar contenders."

'The Kids Are All Right' opened in New York, Los Angeles, Toronto, Chicago and San Francisco.

'The Kids Are All Rright' starring Annette Benning and Julianne Moore as lesbian moms

Focus Features appears to have completed a deal to acquire rights to the Sundance Film Festival favorite 'The Kids Are All Right' by Lisa Cholodenko, reports the LA Times.

The film - which stars Julianne Moore and Annette Bening playing lesbian moms - was shown at Sundance 2010. Mark Ruffalo also stars - as the biological father.

In the story, the couple live with their teenage children, in Los Angeles. As the daughter prepares for college, her younger brother asks her to help him find their biological father.

She contacts the sperm bank - and the bank calls the bio-dad to ask if he’s willing to meet his daughter. He agrees, and the family spins out of control.
