"We chose the donor father from a book" - Response to Daily Kos post

A response to :
"Artificial Insemination is NOT Perverse - Exclamation Point!"

I agree that it is not "perverse" BUT choosing a biological father from a book will most likely make it extremely difficult for those children to ever have an opportunity to know/meet/have a meaningful relationship with their biological father, half siblings and extended biological family/heritage/genealogy.

If this was done in a way that intentionally denies them these relationships then I don't see this as anything less than just a transference of the pain and loss.

And that is not right. Exclamation point.

Update: I just found post on another blog (of an adoptee! - http://bastardette.blogspot.com/2009/06/revolting-entitlement-blather-on...) who, more or less, agrees with me.

It seems most commentary on the web and in the media (re: 'donor' gametes/'surrogacy') is from the adult's POV but there are huge, unexplored sensitivities from the "child's" POV (who do not stay "children" for very long) that is rarely discussed or considered. So I apologize if this POV offends anyone but it needs to be more widely acknowledged as we "move forward" on these issues.
