The second coming

Ok, it happened. Almost two years after I decided to become a father once again and I ad made up my mind that as of July 2007 I was going to be officially done and I had informed the adoption agency that I was done. I was happy with the decision albeit a bit sad. However, I was looking at the positive side of things. Ben was 5 and was going to kindergarten. My cash flow was going to increase due to no more nanny and day care. Ben was a seasoned traveler and could handle overseas vacations in exotic places and I was free of diapers, teething, strollers and port cribs; or so I thought. It was one week later I got a call that they had a little boy with a background similar to Ben and he was 16 months old. UGH! I started the disclosure process, requesting testing, records and all of the other things I do as the due diligence nut that I am. I was completed by Wednesday and Thursday I met with all the parties, and that afternoon I met my son Bryce, and on Friday we began transitioning.

I was scheduled to go on vacation for two weeks to our beach house and then two weeks of paternity leave. The nanny was gone and I was on my own. Well everyone warned me that 2 was much more than one…..Oh sure I already did this…They were right I was wrong. However, the bond between my two kids became cemented within house as did the sibling rivalry. However the little one knows how to use a bat. It has been a whirlwind of a summer and things are settling in and I am getting used to all of it. Returning to work full time to a career that is high pressure and stress was like jumping onto a moving train.

People have asked if I am going to do this again but I gave myself a mental vasectomy during a ride with 2 kids and 2 golden retrievers on the way home from the beach one Saturday. Hell, I do not even want a fish at this point and all the plants in the house are now silk. I love my boys and am happier than I ever have been.
