New mown hay, school papers and social services…Monday

So the day began with taking Bryce to the doctor for shots. I suppose the one thing I do miss about not being in a significant relationship is being able to share the “Bad duties”…I get to be the bad guy all the time, UGH! So, blackberry, cell phone and coffee in hand I went to do the dirty work of being dad. Thus, I was not popular today with my youngest son. He was supposed to have visitation with his “alleged” father and surprise, surprise, he failed to notify the department that he would be there. I take some consolation in that as we are a week before trial to terminate parental rights and it only strengthens the case (as if there is not enough at this point).

I spent the remainder of the morning with the kids in the back yard with the au pair, listening to them play soccer with the puppy and watching the tractor mow the fields and the smell of fall was in the air. I completed Ben’s paperwork to bring it all to school as he begins Kindergarten next Tuesday…I approach that day with a bit of trepidation and the idea of watching his get on the bus is already making me cry.

Next social services decided to drop in for a visit. Despite the fact I like the social worker, it is always an effort to have them here. Bryce will nt go anywhere near them. It is kind of funny how he knows but since he adjusted and is part of this family he steers clear of them. After that we had his early intervention and that went well he is making great strides to catching up. So it is is 9:30 the kids are in bed, the puppy is asleep and I am fninshing preparing for a meeting tomorrow with thoughts of school busses and the smell of new mown hay permeating my room and a sense of ease, despite a busy day of knowing that my kids are all right.

"The Kids are all right"....

Wasn't that a rock and roll tune? LOL. Seriously, it is truly a pleasure in life to hear that soft breathing and see that head on the pillow. I am alternatively reminded of the words of the Magnificat.....'my soul doth magnify' and the words of Dr. Seuss....my 'heart grew three sizes'. (The sublime to the ridiculous?) Anyway, you get my drift.
