We are in need of some legal advice. Kansas does not allow two men to adopt a single child. When we decided to adopt, after long discussions, it was decided that I would adopt the first child and my partner (Brian) would adopt the second child.
We consulted with a lawyer and was advised once the adoption was finalized that papers could be drawn up giving Brian the same legal responsibility to Jordan. However, once finalization was completed, the lawyer seemed to change focus and looked at Brian and I as two separate people, with me being her client (since I adopted first). This of course has made Brian feel like he is being left out.
We need to find a lawyer who can help us set up legally, all the typical paperwork, wills, power of attorneys, etc. giving Brian parental rights to Jordan.
If anyone out there can help, it would be greatly appreciated.
