New Jersey judge rules against church in civil union flap

A New Jersey judge has ruled that a Monmouth County church violated the state’s discrimination laws when it prevented a lesbian couple (pictured) from holding a civil union ceremony on its property. The legal battle dates back to 2007 when the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association stopped the couple from using its boardwalk pavilion. Administrative Law Judge Solomon Metzger wrote in the ruling that the pavilion area was a public space that advertised itself as a wedding venue without any mention of religious preconditions.

The AP reports: The Castro Valley School District is facing a lawsuit by dozens of parents who want more information about a recent school talk by a lesbian pastor.

Pastor Arlene Nehring of the Eden Church of Hayward spoke at Castro Valley High during its annual Days of Diversity program.


California’s Proposition 8 Affects Families

Regardless of your political affiliation, there is no denying that this past November’s election was historic. For the first time in our nation’s history, we had the choice of voting for an African-American presidential candidate and a female vice-presidential candidate. Future will tell if we made the right decision – I shall refrain from inserting my political opinion here!
