{"id":3806,"date":"2009-09-26T08:50:14","date_gmt":"2009-09-26T08:50:14","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2009-09-26T08:50:14","modified_gmt":"2009-09-26T08:50:14","slug":"study-gay-parents-just-as-fit-to-adopt-as-straight-parents","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/proudparenting.com\/2009\/09\/study-gay-parents-just-as-fit-to-adopt-as-straight-parents\/","title":{"rendered":"Study: Gay parents just as fit to adopt as straight parents"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The sexual orientation of adoptive parents does not have an impact on the emotional development of their children, according to a new study.  <\/p>\n<p>Paige Averett, an assistant professor of social work at East Carolina University, said in a statement, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/lifestyleMolt\/idUSTRE58O3MK20090925\" target=\"_blank\">We found that sexual orientation of the adoptive parents was not a significant predictor of emotional problems<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Averett&#8217;s team questioned nearly 1,400 couples in the U.S. &#8211; including 155 gay and lesbian parents.  In addition, they used information from Florida&#8217;s public child welfare system for the study.<\/p>\n<p>Each couple was questioned about themselves and their children, the family composition\/dynamics, and the history of the child before the adoption.
