Egg Donors and surrogates increase in bad economy
CBS2Chicago.com is reporting an increase in Chicago-area surrogate mothers and egg donors. Numbers are up 30 percent for at least one Illinois surrogacy agency.
It has received more phone inquiries since the economic downturn began.
A representative for the company said, “If we got 50 to 60 calls before, it’s probably 75 to 100 calls now.”
According to CBS2, a qualified egg donor for the agency is compensated $7,000 and gestational surrogates receive $25,000.
