Ellen met student who crowd-funded college after his parents rejected him

Georgetown University student Seth Owen got national attention for his attempt to crowd-fund his college education. His parents had rejected him because he refused to go to conversion therapy. Now, after two weeks in college, Owen talked to Ellen.

He told Ellen about how he spent part of this year couch-surfing as a senior in high school, and then moved in with his best friend’s family.

As a high school senior, he was named valedictorian and accepted to Georgetown, but his parents are no longer willing to pay his tuition – so Georgetown gave him a free ride! Friends and family started a GoFundMe for Seth to help him pay for college, and now he wants to help other LGBT kids in similar situations.
